What happens on a video filming and editing job

It starts with what the video is for, because a job advert, a website header, and something for a screen at a show are three different films. Then a day, or part of one, filming where you work. Bring the van, the workshop, and whichever of your staff don’t mind a camera. Sound is the bit everyone underestimates. A lovely picture with wind roaring over it is unusable, so microphones matter more than the camera does. Editing then cuts it to a length somebody will sit through, which is shorter than you think. You get versions that fit where it is going, upright for phones, square for a feed, wide for a website, with subtitles on, since plenty of people watch with the sound off. The finished file is yours to keep. If it turns out you want a new one every month, that is a different conversation and a different brand.

Questions people actually ask

Do I have to be on camera

No. Hands, tools, the work itself and the van carry a video perfectly well, and a voice over the top can do the talking. Plenty of people would rather stay behind the scenes.

What if it chucks it down on the day

Either the day moves or the plan does. Indoor shots get pulled forward and the outside ones wait, which is easier to sort when it is one job rather than a fixed monthly slot.

Can you just edit footage I’ve already shot

Yes, send it. Phone footage cuts together better than people expect, and editing on its own is a smaller job than filming from scratch.
