What is 3D modelling?
3D modelling is the process of building a digital, three-dimensional version of a product, building or space so it can be viewed, rendered and animated before anything physical is made. At Reor Design in Taunton we build those models for architects, engineers, product designers and marketing teams across Somerset.
What can a 3D model be used for?
A 3D model earns its keep long before anything physical exists. Architects use one to show a client how a building sits on its plot and how daylight moves through it across the day. Product designers use one to test proportions, materials and finishes without paying for a prototype. Marketing teams use one to produce product images for a website, a brochure or an exhibition stand while the product is still in development, then reuse the same model for every campaign that follows. Engineers use one to check clearances and assembly order before anything is cut. Because the model is digital, changing a colour, a material or a dimension costs a render rather than a reshoot, and the same asset works across print, web, video and virtual reality. That reuse is usually where the cost of modelling pays for itself.

Frequently asked questions about 3D modelling
What do you need from me to start a 3D model?
Drawings, dimensions or CAD files if you have them, and reference photographs if you do not. Where none of that exists, a sketch and a set of measurements is usually enough to begin.
What do I get at the end?
Rendered images sized for web and for print. Where the brief calls for it, the same model can be taken through to animation or video, which we also produce in house.
Can you model a building rather than a product?
Yes. Architectural visualisation, interior scenes and site layouts are handled the same way as product work, from plans and elevations.
Can the model be reused for marketing later?
That is usually the point. Once the model exists, further images, variants and animations come from the same asset without going back to square one.
