What do I get for my money with poster printing
A poster has one job, which is to be read by somebody walking past at speed. So the first question is what it has to say, and where it is going. A gig listing on a town noticeboard needs different handling from a price board inside a shop. Once that is settled, the size and the material follow on their own. Paper suits windows and indoor walls. Board holds its shape on an easel or a fence post. If you already have artwork, it gets checked before anything goes on the press, so text doesn’t get trimmed off the edge and photos don’t come out muddy. If you haven’t got any, one gets drawn up for you. Either way the finished files are yours to keep afterwards, so next year’s version is a small change to a date or a price rather than a fresh start.

Can I just have one
Yes. Short runs are normal here, so you’re not buying a boxful of spares to get the one you needed for the window. Say roughly how many you’ll really use.
Will it survive being outside
On paper, not for long. Ask for board, and a laminate over the top if it is going somewhere wet or windy. Tell us where it’s going and you’ll get pointed at the right one.
I’ve got last year’s poster, can you change the dates
Usually, if you can find the original file. A flattened picture off a phone is harder, though it can often be rebuilt so that this time you end up owning something editable.
